Another shortwide project

Well I just wanted to show you guys a new project of mine. I traded my friend Matt my '65 suburban for his '64 big window shortwide. Its a great runner with a 283 and 3 speed on the tree. The floors are rusted out and drivers cab corner but the rest is pretty nice. He has always wanted a suburban and really liked mine. I figured I could always find another one.

I am still learning. Short wide I'm guessing is a short bed non stepside?

The truck looks awesome!

Re: Another shortwide project

I'm not sure. I really need another project like I need a hole in my oil pan. But I do have a nicer small window cab laying around, I may swap it out rather than try and fix this one. I was thinking about giving it to my 17 yr.old son but I don't think he's going to want it. Computers are way to cool and you don't get dirty playin with them.
If not I may just fix it up as a stocker or cut the floors out and do a body drop. I have a friend who has done this and I think its kinda cool. What do you guys think?

Re: Another shortwide project

The swb fleet trucks with the big back window option are among the low production runs for this era of trucks, compared to the lwb fleetsides and the swb stepsides. I would keep it, repair the rust damage and make a driver out of it. Good, unmolested survivors are getting more scarce every day, especially with the number of trucks being scraped or modified. It will hold its value, regardless. Keep us posted on the direction you go and remember to post lots of pictures. Good luck with your rig and thanks for sharing.

Very nice and not too bad to start with. And as for the son, you can tell him that there's plenty of young guys and gals getting dirty and busting their butts on them including this 18 year old. Then you can tell him that he can design and put together a really sweet audio/video system for it and amaze all of his buddies. The last part is providing he has a job.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks

Re: Another shortwide project

Well I sold it off to help pay for my air bag stuff on my black truck. Funny thing that I traded my '65 suburban for it and now I'm trading again to get the same suburban back. I think I'll keep it this time. My wife and kids like it.

Glad your getting the sub back..I just picked up a 60 sub 1/2 ton and if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your side glass? I'm missing some glass and also one glass latch.
Thanks
Bob

Bob I would just go to a glass shop and have them make you a tempered replacement by using one of the glass pieces that you still have as a pattern. It'll take a few days but it'll work best for you. Finding the correct glass maybe hard to do in your area. Plus shipping glass cost lots more than the glass itself. The sliding glass lock is a bigger problem. They are famous for coming off the glass and getting lost. And no one makes a repop. I'll keep an eye out for one for ya.
