Went to an auction today...
Went to a local farm acution today. They had an 87 with 58,000 miles, and an 86 diesel with a bad trans.
As I turn in to the dirt 1 1/2 lane road, I see a late 80's white 3/4 4x4 parking off the road. Just down from it are a red 70's square and a blue 80's square 4x4. As I'm threading down the road, which is parked both sides for 1/2 mile, I see a 80's GMC 'burb, 2 more 70's squares, a couple more 80's 4x4's. After walking back the 1/2 mile from the first available parking, I see on the lawn an 87 short half 4x4 black/grey, red stripe, fully loaded, absolutely beautiful, undercoated, etc. Since I'm building my pole barn next week I walk away. Out back I find an 86 diesel. 6.2 TH400, appeard to be an ex-miltary job with the pintle hitch, odd battery location, etc. EVERY panel on this truck had a rust hole, pillars, roof, doors, both bed sides, even the plate steel bumper had a hole in it. Batteries were dead, no front bumper, appeard to have been used to plow in the MI salt. Looking at it the only parts I thought I could use were the door pads, manual black in good shape. And any truck that has been abused enough to rip out a TH400 is not likely to have any good drivetrain parts left. So I went home. With at least 20 square people there the 87 was going to go too high for me, and the 86 was junk and I already have 3 1/2 of those. But man was the 87 nice.
