Trim new springs?

Do I need to trim the ear on my new front springs to properly seat the spring in the bottom and upper grooves? Has anyone had to do this? See picture below.

Re: Trim new springs?

The spring should be right as it is. Your old spring has taken a set which affects the windup. This explains why the two won't match.

Re: Trim new springs?

40+ years of flexing will cause the spring to begin to sag... the old springs were as high as your replacements back in the day.

Re: Trim new springs?

I'm going to give it a shot. I wasn't concerned on the height, just whether the spring will sit in the grooves properly since the new spring appears longer. When I test fit the bottom in properly, the top didn't feel right, but its hard to tell, there is not much of a "nub" up there where the spring sits, just the center circle. Thought I'd ask first.

Thanks for the responses.

Frank

Re: Trim new springs?

Any chance you could measure the height of those old stock springs and report the results in the thread linked below? Even better if you can measure the wire diameter too. I know you truck is a 70 but I think the springs were the same from 70 to 72.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Re: Trim new springs?

Bottom has a place to seat, to locate, top doesn't, it's the same all the way around on mine...
