For $800-1000 you could probably come up with a good running 350 and and 350THM and the incidentals to switch it over. You could always offer him a grand less and see what happens.

I have a`71 350/TH350 all ready to drop in.I`d like to do so many things with that.One is restore it stock,another is do it as is with a low/custom look,another is shiney red sleek custom,or mount it on a 4wd frame with black tall/skinny tires.

I would probably just drive it just the way it is. I used to make fun of my dad for liking original trucks. lol I'm starting to like original trucks more and more.
