Clutch spline Question

I've got a 1970 C-10 and I have another motor to drop in it.

I need to order some parts - namely the clutch.

I got this far in my search on Summit:

but now it's asking for disk diameter and talking about the number of splines.

Now someone will say "remove the motor and tranny, split them, and count your splines" and normally i would do that, but I am borrowing the cherry picker and need to have the old motor out, split, the tranny attached to the new motor and back in the truck in a weekend - which means I need to have the clutch ready to install when I remove the old motor.

So can anyone help me choose the right clutch to order?

1970 Chevrolet C-10
Motor: Chevrolet 350 I bought off Craigslist
Transmission: Original 3-speed column shift tranny.

Or am I going to have to split these first?

If remember right the splines on the clutch are based on transmission.

I got my new clutch kit for my '71 C-10 at Auto Zone for right at $120.

They did not ask me about splines or type of manual transmission and it fit fine and works great. Of course I am only running a mild built 454 with a old style 4 speed. I got the clutch kit for a 350 engine.

I usually try to buy local, that way I can see the parts before I buy them and if they are not right it is easy to take them back.

i want to put the biggest McLeod ceramic clutch in my 72 burb that will fit when i swap in the 406sbc and mate it to the stock column shifter saginaw. will be doing a lot of towing and i don't want a clutch that can take the heat!

It's hard to buy a clutch before you pull the old one. There are a lot of options. The spline count is pretty much the same all through that era but there are sveral different diameters. They go by the dia. of the disc. I agree by it locally.

My four speed sm465 has the coarse spines...I think 8 or 10.

Edit: I just counted the clutch alignment tool I have and it has 10 splines.

my 71 with 3 speed was an 11 inch clutch disc and 10 splines. i bought an ac delo brand fore 160 buxs becaus ei couldn;t get a cheapo clucth from advance auto parts or auto zone to last

I have five man 4 speeds all 465 muncie and one I think made by chev, ie
reverse on left and down. All trannys are 10 splines. The cluthes I have
three on the floor. All are 10 splines. One is from a 69 3/4, by 4 and it is
a twelve in clutch. the other two are 11 in one is from a 6 cyl 1/2 ton and
the other from a 70 1/2 with a 307 cid. Hope this helps you out.
