Black hides the oil leaks better. I'm serious....

But I agree with you, any real chevy engine is orange.

its an '84 shortbox. i know factory the motor is black, just couldn't tell what finish of black. i am tossing up the idea of removing the stock 305 and replacing it with my 355 after i refresh it. if i do so i have been going back and forth between making it look as though it is still the stock motor to have kind of a sleeper, or to go with the chevy orange block and heads, and bare aluminum intake with the cast aluminum finned valve covers painted chevy orange between the fins. lol anyways.... if i go the "sleeper" route i figured it would be good to know the factory finish so people who know won't be able to go "thats been changed." unless i am pressing a little hard on the pedal.

the first picture is the stock motor in the shortbox now. the other one is similar to what my other option would look like.

Re: factory engine colors.

Go for orange! Not much need for the sleeper look under the hood, the outside is more important. Anyone that knows what they're looking at under the hood would get a general idea of what it is, no matter what color the parts are.
