Odometer Stopped Working... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

It's been stuck on 67499.4 sence about a week after I got the truck out of storage. I don't know what I might get into to try and fix the situtation so I thought I'd ask for sum opinions first.

Would it be as simple as the cable just disconnecting from being bounced around? (my truck rides wicked smooth eh?

) Or to take a guess has anyone had the same thing happen and what part/assembly etc. was it that broke and had to be repaired?

If the speedo works but the odometer don't...I'm thinkin it is time for a new speedo assembly.

If the odometer does not work, but the speedo does, then it is possible that one of the gears jammed in the odometer. Mine did this after sand got into the assembly after sandblasting the floor. You could take it out, blow it off really good with compressed air, and oil it to see if it works again. If not, you might need a new one.

Just something to think about, if you should ever resell the truck, an odometer that doesn't work forces the prospective buyer to judge the vlue of the truck based on actual condition instead of what they consider to be "high Mileage". Just my $.02.
