Shift Boot Suggestions

The transfer case shift boot on my 1970 Blazer is missing. I have not been able to find one. Other than making one out of vinyl, what could I use that would look close to OE. Any ideas would be appreciated. If anyone knows a source of reproductions (or NOS), I would be thrilled to know where I could get one!!! I assume that pickups use the same boot.

Re: Shift Boot Suggestions

Have you checked with any of the board vendors to see if they have repops? I believe they are/were made. I don't believe that they make the retainer ring on that holds it to the the floor.

Re: Shift Boot Suggestions

Yes. I checked with Classic Parts, Brothers, Year One, and LMC. Only the round (maybe slightly oval) ones are available. Used on 71-72 models as far as I can tell. To add confusion Brothers lists a 68-70 only available. They took one off the shelf for me and it was round, like eveyone else's 71-72. My profile picture shows what I have. Can anyone suggest a solution. What are you all using?

Re: Shift Boot Suggestions

You must have a rockwell transfer case in your blazer. They do not reproduce the rockwell 221 boots, so you have to watch for them when trucks get parted out on here. The np205 in 70' used the 71-72 boot though, and I believe maybe a handful of 69' blazers had np205's and used the same boot. The rockwell 221 has it's own boot, np205's have their boot (reproduced), and the Dana 20 uses something completely different. Good luck in the hunt. Trevor

Re: Shift Boot Suggestions

Dougandarthur,
I just replaced the Dana 20 in my 70 blazer with an np205 and no longer need the shifter boot and retaining plate. If you can figure out wheter or not you have a dana 20 (I'll try to post some pics of what mine looked like) I'd be more than happy to let you have it for a small price. It isn't perfect but I don't think it's torn anywhere and would probably clean up nicely...

Re: Shift Boot Suggestions

Yes sir, that there is a dana20 shifter. Ask me cause I know, getting ready to swap it for my new to me np205 in the garage. Already have np205 case, proper high hump housing, boot, retaining ring, crossmember, skid plate w/crossmember, poly bushing kits, side torsion mount w/poly bushings, shift lever w/nice knob, oh sorry I get carried away!

Re: Shift Boot Suggestions

You my friend may want to do like a lot of us are doing, and swap out the dana20 for a np205. I never broke my 20, but am swapping anyway, just heavier duty IMHO.
