Re: Factory odd ball trucks
I can't find anything but I recall reading once about an early 80s model (perhaps '82) that was built and marketed as a gas miser. It had the 6 cylinder and was manual shift and was advertised to get mpg in the mid to high 20s on the highway. Not sure if it had any lightweight body panels or anything like that.

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
Yes - there was a thread here recently that showed the brochures.
No lightweight panels, though - K

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
Looked at a 73 step side 4x4 factory original 350 4sp the other day that had no drip rails (not sure how common), a manual choke in the cab, and a gas tank filler neck on the passenger side of the body. Owner said it had a tank behind the seat (like the 67-72's). It also had a single saddle gas tank on the pass side (not sure which was original??). Factory A/C. Also, only had lap belts.
If I read the VIN tag right I thought I noticed a 5/72 build date. Could it have been one of the first 73 trucks built??? I wish I would of thought to take a pic of the glove box with the options....

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
Mine is a garden variety 1984 SWB Big 10, Canadian Chevrolet, complete without A/C or even vents (floor heat and kick panel vents), special ordered with manual windows and locks, but full Silverado trim, minus the headliner. It was a 4bbl 305 with the 700R4, but has all the cold weather items, including a three-blade fan. It was sold in Ontario, Canada, then migrated to Oklahoma.

I'd agree - a Silverado with Manual windows/locks, minus the headliner; I didn't even know you could do that. K

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
Yes it has the trim up the a-pillars and around the roof, but the metal is painted body color... This weekend I got a headliner board to recover and hope to make it more "normal" soon.
The most difficult piece of replacement trim to find was the aluminum Silverado fascia that runs along the passenger side of the dash, with no vents. I kinda like the manual windows and locks, they still work like new, but have the same trimmings as the loaded models. Plus it has the upgraded seat and carpet. |

Re: Factory odd ball trucks
i guess you could say all of the square bodies ive owned have been oddball in one way or another.
ol red-1978 chevy 1/2 ton longbed-scottsdale series, has a/c,p/s,p/b,hd suspension, came with a 250I-6/3ott,manual windows and door locks,speedo/fuel gauge/idiot lights,non-tilt.vinyl floormat, cloth seat, metallic red with a tan interior,non-sliding back window.4th out of 4 square bodies ive owned. rusty-1974 chevy 1/2 ton longbed-cheyenne super series, was pretty much fully loaded except for a headliner and power windows/door locks,speedo/fuel gauge/full instrumentation, even had the framework for a headliner just not the liner itself, had alot of rust(truck was from nebraska) as a result needed fenders, floor pans, rocker panels, floor supports and a new bed.also had a wood bed floor.came with a 350 V-8 2bbl/TH350.had the original carpeting.if the truck wasnt so rusted i would have kept it.motor in it ended up dropping 5 cylinders so i took the motor out for a complete rebuild and parted out the 74.it was sadly too rusted out to save.3rd out of the 4 square bodies ive owned. orange crush-1978 chevy 1/2 ton longbed-custom deluxe series, not much custom about this truck it was pretty stripped down, non a/c,does have p/s and p/b,vinyl floor and seat,non-tilt,speedo/fuel gauge/idiot lights, manual windows and door locks and not much else.came with a 350 V-8 4 bbl/TH350.currently has 355 V-8 out of rusty after being rebuilt of course and a TH350 which will be going into ol red.orange will then get either ol red's old driveline or may possibly get a stock 350 V-8 rebuilt for it along with another TH350.i still had the original motor out of this truck just not sure where it is at this moment. green machine-1978 chevy 1/2 ton shortbed-scottsdale series, bought with a blown up 350,only thing saveable on the motor was the heads, intake, exhaust manifolds, carb and a few small knick knack items, had a 1973 350 sitting in my dads storage so we combined the two motors to make one built a stock 350 for it this was before my uncle got me interested in high perfomance and fast stuff lol, tranny in it was new so we left it alone except to add fluid since the motor in it died before any real run time could be put on the tranny, truck had a/c,p/s,p/b,manual windows and locks,no vinyl or carpeting,speedo/fuel gauge/full instrumentation, the speedo was odd in that it only went to 85 mph and had the metric readings underneath it,ive never seen this in a late 70's chevy before or since, heavy duty suspension, bodywise the truck looked like it was ran hard in a demolition derby and then parked it needed a front clip in the worse kinda way.i was young when i had this truck and really didnt like it a whole lot so i traded it for orange crush in 1999.

The four speed is the MY6, aka the New Process A-883 trans, which is the trans I ordered in my truck: 3rd gear is 1:1 and 4th gear is .73:1. That is an excellent chart, btw. I've been looking for one like that; Thanks for posting it. K
