Hey Keith, question for you....
My coworker just bought a very cherry 79 K10 short bed. One of the options on the build sheet is RPO "B84 - Body side molding". How common was this stripe? I never knew a stick-on stripe of this type existed on a 73-80.
This is not his truck, but it had the same exact stripe on it. Any thoughts?

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
i'd also be interested in what the expert says, but i'll take a crack at it.
I think this is single body color, scottsdale/high sierra only (maybe custom deluxe) trim from about 75-79. i have never seen it on a sliverado (even solid colored ones). lots of custom deluxes did not have it. it is very similar to the black trim that came out on Scottsdales and high sierras in the mid 80s, except its up high on the body. Keith am I close?

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
I know where there is an '80 with that trim on it. I'll get a pic next time I see it.

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
I had a 77 Bonanza solid silver with this trim in 1979...I recall seeing it fairly routinely.

I will be watching to see what other info comes about from this one. I think it is kinda cool looking.

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
My '77 had that trim originally (it's a Sierra Grande, the equivalant of a Scottsdale), and I remember seeing the same trim on lots of trucks years ago. I also remember seeing "ghosts" on trucks of where this trim had been, but had fallen off after years of exposure to the elements. That's probably why you don't see it on many trucks today.

I think you guys have nailed it. I don't remember seeing so many but it sounds pretty prevalent based on your eye-witness reporting. Speaking of trim falling off: I-69 and I-75 in the Flint area used to be just "littered" with those stick on moldings, and trim like is on my truck. They'd be laying on the shoulder of the road, stuck on the guard rails and on those cement center barriers. You are right - that's probably whey you don't see it on many trucks today!

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
Thanks Keith and everyone else too! I had just never seen this type of molding before, and wondered what the story was on it.

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
I'm with you Bob. I've never seen a truck with it on there either. Glad to have that piece of knowledge now so I can keep an eye out.

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
I know that this is WAY PAST when this was up originally...
My Dad had a 77 Custom Deluxe that he bought new with that same side molding.

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
I would assume that it was a "dealer add-on". It's a very common moulding that comes on a "roll". You just cut an inverted triangle (like a fish-tail) into the end and pull the points together to make that "point" on the front.
I have seen it a million times and done it several dozen. It's not that bad, only a few months, I have see threads brough back after as much as 6-7 years some even asking if the item in question was still for sale? LOL

Yes - I should have mentioned that. B85 is the chrome version.

Here's the B85 molding for '87: I had to order that special. The base molding for the Scottsdale package was the (black) B84; I opted up to the chrome B85 molding. K

Re: Hey Keith, question for you....
anyone on here know where i can get replacement for this trim.checked LMC and they dont appear to carry it.i do like the trim and would like to keep it but if i cant find a good replacement for it then what would it take to remove the trim as well as the residue from the glue holding it onto the truck
