Anyone running E85?
Is anyone running E85? I will be soon running E85 in my LS2 (cheaper than race gas) Im just wondering how much your milage droped off after switching from gas. How much more power did you make running race gas VS E85?

Re: Anyone running E85?
Good question. I was wondering the same, but not for race applications.

Re: Anyone running E85?
I wasnt wondering about race applications. Just as a general question. My truck may see the 1/4mile 1-2 times a year and if it's that big of a difference i will have another computer flashed for car gas. That and if the fuel mileage is way down i think i will have to make a new gas tank(replace the 19 gal aftermarket) so i dont have to stop every 100 miles to get fuel.

Re: Anyone running E85?
One of my Service Advisors has a mitsubishi EVO MR that picked up 98 hp when he switch to E85 the car is no a daily driver and it went from 687 to the wheels to 785 on a fully built engine.
My best friends 72 camaro has a 454 with a procharger and he just converted it EFI and E85 and is going on the dyno tomorrow again this is not a daily driver is a show and go car.....I will post his gains from carb and 110 gas to E85 and EFI....

Re: Anyone running E85?
Thanks that will be interesting to see what the numbers are. Did he do anything else to the motor other than switching the intake and carb to the EFI setup (cam, heads, ect.)?

Re: Anyone running E85?
You don't pick up power unless you add timing or boost I forgat to mention....

Re: Anyone running E85?
Well I'm running a stock 02 6.0L with a Mag 112 blower (8psi) on it now (stock 70cc heads). I'm switching to the 243 heads (cnc 64cc heads) a new style Mag 112 blower (12psi) and a new cam (still havent figuered out what cam yet). I know switching from the setup I'm running now will push the compression ratio over 10.5.1 plus the blower will push it to high to run 93 so i have to run E85 or race gas.

Re: Anyone running E85?
on a stock engine, you will not make as much power, and your MPG will deop. In many parts of the country, E85 is becoming less and less common. A few years ago I was called an idiot on here when I predicted this, but it is already on its way out.

Re: Anyone running E85?
Well i live in MN and E85 is everywhere but i did notice the decline of stations (stations that had it going out of busniess). i know about the drop in gas mileage and hp (i drive a flexfuel tahoe). I just watch what all the cars are running it the Car Craft Summer Nationals (here in MN) on the dyno and see they are throwing down HUGE numbers. I saw a 70 chevelle turbo charged running E85 put 1085HP to the wheels (on 10"5 wide drag radials).

Re: Anyone running E85?
You really need to talk to your tuner. As Andy mentioned for street applications like you flex-fuel Tahoe E85 sucks. I tried it in my 09 Sierra and got terrible MPG and power but you already know that.
Since you are running a boosted motor with the proper tune you should be able to run E85 on the street and not have to be concerned with detonation issues.
