engine degreaser?
I'm goin to attempt to decode the year of the pontiac 400 today.I'm goin to have to get though many years of dirt and grim to get the numbers.I figured I would get a wire brush attachment to put on my drill.I've also got a dremel that I could use.any info on an easier way would be nice to know.I found out the motor could be slightly modofied (intake, carb) to make it haul *?"

ZEP 940 degreaser.....wear gloves....
Also, good ol' EZ-Off oven cleaner, original formula, works well too.

Re: engine degreaser?
I've heard that oven cleaner works like magic! I don't think I'd use it while the engine is still in the vehicle though.
I've heard good things about Simple too. |

Re: engine degreaser?
Put a quart of diesel in a pump up sprayer and soak the cold engine. Ensure you parked where the run-off won't be a problem. I've used a car wash late at night and let the residue run into the grease trap. After about an hour of soaking, hit it with spray wand. Use a car wash that offers hot water. Don't do this in your driveway.
