Exclamation Need quick advice: Buying '85 K3500 w/6.2 diesel

Found a retired fire department 1985 k3500 4x4 with a 6.2 diesel. 45k original miles in FANTASTIC condition. This is one hell of a truck but I know nothing about the 6.2 diesel. I know Chevy had alot of probs with their diesels but I hear this was a good engine.

Enlighten me please!

Excellent engine! Keep it maintained properly and it will easily hit 500K.

Re: Need quick advice: Buying '85 K3500 w/6.2 diesel

years back i drove a Cab and chassis with a flatbed for a lumber yard part time and the truck there had well over 250K on it and they never changed anything on that truck untill it broke or fell off... it was about ten years old when i got to it and it prolly had the original oil and filter in it and it ran like the devil.. those were real good motors as far as im concerned

Somewhat finicky, but they can be great motors. Check for bubbles in the coolant once it warms up, and that it starts with its own glows when cold. There should be noticeable change in RPM when the cold idle kicks off. If it has gagues, water temp never more than 200, oil pressure never below 20.

Welcome to the dark fuel side...

X2 Great engine!! Just don't expect Duramax type power. I had a 'burb with one and it would get 22-25mpg.
