This is the direction I'll go if I route a straight pipe up from the tank inlet. What did your 'hinge' come off of?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I figured as much but thought it would be good info to know regardless. I have an old license plate flip bracket I was going to use. They're spring loaded to close & have a ratchet position to stay open as well.

Re: Questions for under bed gas tank guys....

FWIW I had an old one ton with a deck on it,that would not take fuel.I found out that if I drove up on a 4x4 block so the fuel fill side was higher,it would take fuel without any trouble.I don't imagine you want to be doing that everytime you fill up,but it does suggest the problem is in the angle moreso than the size of pipe.

That's part of my issue w/the limited amount of slope.

My tank was being raised for better ground clearance but the drawback is the fill line angle. I'll prob resort to the straight up fill if I keep the *cheaper* re-pop blazer tank so that I maintain my amount of planned clearance.

*cheaper vs. aftermarket fuel tanks/cells

Re: Questions for under bed gas tank guys....

I got an invite PM from Scoti to share my modifications. Always glad to help so here goes:

What kind of tank did you use?
"Tanks" P/N 51-CG. It is a stock repro 1949-52 Chevy passenger car steel tank
How did you route the fill line?
Modified 1937 Ford filler neck that I bought from Bob Drake Reproductions P/N 78-9034-B $35.00
What size fill line?
2 inch. The "key" here however is that the tank has a 1/2" vent line.
Any problems w/modern pumps 'shutting off' during the fuel fill process?
I have yet to fill this tank from a filling station.
My '65 C10 gas tank relocation is my 3rd custom gas tank installation. The first was a custom stainless tank I built for my Model A Ford, the 2nd was for my Model T Roadster Pickup. Both cars are V-8 fenderless Hot Rods. I have used a vent line on all 3 and have not experienced the fuel belching problem on any of them.

The belching problem is due to pressure build up within the tank due to inadequate pressure relief. If the fill line is a straight shot down into the tank the pressure vents itself during filling (that's how our OEM tanks work without a vent line and why you fellas with the rear mount top fill tanks in the bed don't need a vent line.) If you have any bends or elbows that causes turbulence during filling, the tank can start to build pressure. A vent line coming out of the top of the tank will solve this problem. However the vent line needs to be installed with a "roll over" valve so that in an accident if the vehicle rolls over gas won't run out of the vent line.

Here are some pic's of my installation. (Notice the vent line adjacent to the fill line.) For more data, including pricing and part number data, check out my build thread.

I hope this data helps....

Thanks!

Our mounting placement is similar but your 'fill pipe' extends much higher as mine is just above the bed floor (@ 3"). My concern was I have to 90° turn 3" under the floor to get my < 5° slope & I feel that 90 such a short distance from the cap/opening is going to be my dilemma with or without the vent.

Its a 16 Gallon fuel cell from Summit. I cut the last brace under the bed to get it closer to the bed floor for clearence.

The tank doesn't hang any lower then the rear bumper.....

My truck has a 3/5 drop and there is 13inchs from the lowest point of the tank to the ground.... I'll get a good side view where you can see the ground and the tank as soon as I can. Its pretty nasty outside right now......
