a/c compressor - a6 to r4 style
my 72 has an a6 original style compressor that leaks. i would like to try a newer smaller r4 comp. better gas economy and less clutter? has any one had any luck doing this? murphys law if it jams force it, if it breaks its defective... old money.

You would have to change all the brackets & pulley's. for the complete system. The A-6 is a much better comp. & look more natural in that model. With the right tools the seal is not hard to replace. They are a dime a dozen at the salvage yards & swap meets. I would stick with the A-6. They are almost indestructable. The R-4 has no oil reservoir. If it locks up your whole sustem is contaminated.

I'm in agreement with Wrench. Use a Ceramic Seal on an A-6 and your good to go. Check out the ACForum.com for more. Al W.
