Re: cross drilled rotors?

Cross-drill your own rotors? I'd be very leery of doing it at home. To me, there are balance issues, which mean that that the spacing on the holes you drill should be consistent and deliberate. If you don't keep the rotor in -balance, you'll know it soon enough. I haven't measure any of the holes I have seen, but they look like .025 inch to my wandering eye.

Re: cross drilled rotors?

I did my own on at least 10 of my vehicles. There is no balance issue , but you do need to keep your pattern true the whole way around the rotor.

I did these for the front of my 67. They are off of a 72 Impala 454SS. Implala's used the same bearing size as the 1/2 ton trucks. Very cheap way to upgrade your front brakes. Rotors, calipers, and pads were under $100 bill at Advanced Auto Parts.

WOW never seen this one...

How true does it need to be? I love DIY cheap/free mods! Is it that noticible in braking?

Divide out the amount of holes you need to cover the entire rotor in a even pattern at the figured distance apart and mark your spots and drill all the way thru from one side to the other. 1/4" holes and all must be chamfered. I then clearcoat the rotors for a rustfree life. Becareful to make sure you dodge the cooling fins. I have seen aftermarket rotors drilled thru the fins and they ended up cracking. Mass production at its best.

Re: cross drilled rotors?

I have never seen this done but my friend did his own slotted rotors with any problems on both his cars and they work as good as the aftermarket slotted rotors he had on car. Cool idea though and if it works it works.

5X4 3/4 bolt pattern. I would check and see if your bearing fit in the rotor race before purchasing. Might have upgraded the bearing size on the 73 and up trucks. My A-arms are from POL. They had a sale for a complete frontend kit with drop shocks and your choice of springs for like 849.95. Had to buy it for that price.
