Proportioning valve plumbing
I have noticed that a lot of times the plumbing between the master cylinder and prop valve is often reversed (see picture).
Is there any functional reason for this?

Depends on the master. At some point GM switched from the front resevior going to the front brakes. Later models it goes to the rear.
