Point me in the right direction
I have a right rear axle leak.I tore into rear end pulled axle and seal is on axle tube behind a pressed on sealed bearing on axle. When replacing this bearing do you heat the axle to drop bearing on axle or do you heat bearing on hot plate or something and drop on axle. What I have as far as rearend is a dana44,10bolt differential.Or can bearings be replaced to where gear oil can lube bearing with seal on the outher side of bearing?Has anyone out there done this replacement or upgrade? Also is there a link here with a n exploded view of this teardown?HELP!!!

Re: Point me in the right direction
you need to get it pressed on, there is no heat when you change the axle bearings, there should be a c clip that holds the bearings on too, take it top a local shop and have them press it on for you

Re: Point me in the right direction
Are all dana 44 carriers the same as in dimension wise.Would an 80's carrier and pinion fit in a 60's case as long as they are within gearing ratio size?I guess what I am trying to ask is will a 1980's 3.07 ring and pinion w/carrier setup fit in a 1965 rearend case if both are Dana44's?
