1970 Eaton HO52 3rd member 4.10 No Spin with axles

SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, i have a HO52 3rd member out of a 1970 3/4 4x4 GMC Suburban. It is in great shape from what I can tell, and is in great shape. The SPID of the truck said No-Spin, and I confirmed it with pictures from another board member. I also counted the rotations of the gear when turning the input. slightly over 4 turns to make 1 revolution.

Part numbers on the main gear are:
3682146
GM 7.36
8 1969

The gear look good with minor surface rust at the tips.

Will include both axles, which are in great shape as well.

$300/bo. Prefer not to ship, but will consider it. Going to be expensive to ship. Pickup in 13790. might be able to work something out for meeting in Rochester, NY, Enfield, CT or Carlisle, PA (Friday of Spring Carlisle) if interested.

The following were taken right after removal. Previous were after 1 day

7-36? That's a 5.14, not a 4.10.

Heavy duty third member there.

Re: HO52 3rd member 4.10 No Spin with axles

Are you sure? Cause I spun it around by hand and got just over 4 times? I can go back and check it again tomorrow, but I was told that was a good way to check the rear. And I thought that 5.16's were in the 1 tons, not 3/4 ton? And everything I have read has said that the GMC 3/4 suburbans with automatics got 4.10.

Well, anyways, I will check it, and count the teeth as well.

Hrm. Little more research and you might be right.

Comparing the front of it to some stuff in this thread:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...=771317&page=1
and my rear

It might be an HO72, due to the load bolt. If that's the case, then the 5.14 is probably correct. Will have to look it over again tomorrow and get more pictures.

Thanks for the info.

Re: HO52 3rd member 4.10 No Spin with axles

My Chevy parts book lists # 3682146 as a 36-tooth ring gear always matched with a 7-tooth pinion (3682145 (front axle), 3766684, or 3934643). This setup was usually found in one-tons, but it was available in 3/4-tons from '61-'64.

All that said, it's possible someone swapped third members on your truck. When I bought my truck, it had a 4.57 r&p from a '64 C20. Now it has a 4.10 from a '69 C20.

FWIW, some H052s had the load bolt too.

Going back to my initial post, GM stamped the tooth count on both the ring and the pinion (which in your case is 7-36). 36/7 = 5.14. Turning by hand is a good guesstimate if you don't want to pull the cover, but nothing beats counting teeth--especially if the manufacturer already did it for you!

Re: HO52 3rd member 4.10 No Spin with axles

Yeah, I know it's a 69 gear and the truck is already a conglomerate of other trucks and issues (76 motor, 70 VIN, 2wd body swap) so an axle swap wouldn't surprise me. The truck was setup for towing, so they might have blown the rear and swapped in better towing gears.

I'll count the teeth just to be sure, but I am going to assume it's stamped correct.
