I have a problem with my springs. The lower control arm has the end where your suppose to align the end of the spring with. If I do that the top is about 90 degrees off from sitting flush as they are kind oval.

I can turn the spring counterclockwise which does not put the bottom on top of the lip as it is going the opposite direction. Is this OK to do? What are everyones thoughts on this? It will let the top sit flush and the bottom is still flush it is ust not at the end where the indentation stops

They are ECE 2" drop springs. If I turn the top to fit properly in the top so it fits the oval portion the bottom is 2" counter clockwise from being at the end of the control arm indention.

both springs appear to be identical. I can switch out the springs and both are ending in the same spot when fitted on top.

he coil would round on the inside of the control arm a bit more which would keep the truck a tad higher but turning it counterclockwise would end the coil on the bottom facing the passenger side which I think would drop it down a bit.

i think it would work. I was just wondering if anyone has ran into this or if this is the way it should be. The coil will stay in and not pop out. Until I get to the otherside I wont know if both sides are consistent on how they fit.

I have ECE 2" drop springs on my 67 and they line up perfectly. Call their tech line. ECE is a top notch outfit and they stand behind their stuff.

Here is a few pics,

THe stock spring compared to the ECE spring. When I align the tops you can see the only issue will be on the bottom control arm when installed. I do not see where this would be to big of a problem if at all as you still have a good contact area on the control arm. It just does not go as far as the stock spring.
I think this will allow the truck to sit a hair lower in the front as the coil ending is on the inside of the control arm which is where most pressure is for holding the truck up. Both springs are identical compared to stock.

i had (have) the same problem on my '72. i installed 2" lowering springs & one spring does not "sit" right. the front view of the truck looks slightly higher on that side.

i am told that the end of the spring is "sitting" on the sleeve pocket the it is supposed to slip into. unfortunatly i can't fix it unless i take apart the front end. i wonder if you could cut off a small leg of the spring to "make" it fit.

i don't think that would hurt the ride quality...?? anyways i will be watching this to see how it pans out.

My springs are shorter, they fit in the pocket plus an extra inch to spare. if it was on the pocket I would trim a piece off... But mine is a bit to short as you can see from the bottom pic.

I just do not think that it would be a problem this way. but what do I know? LOL

They are probably fine. Now go out and slowly hit a few speed bumps in a shopping center to seat them. You will probably hear a "bang". Measure before and after doing this.

I would install with the top of the spring lined up as should be and drive a couple miles, allowing them to settle.

I had the same problem with my springs as well. I bought mine from cpp. I went and bought a set from ece and they fit perfect.

Are you sure they are 2" drop springs?

Not that it happens a lot but there's always the chance to receive different springs than what you actually ordered. I would give Stan/Mark a call and tell them the issues you are experiencing.

Remember, dropped springs are rated based on new stock height ones. Your almost 40 year old ones have sagged. That is why so many people get disappointed when they buy xx" drop springs and their truck ends up slightly lower or some cases even higher. Their original springs has sagged so much, they were like dropped springs. That's why ECE put pics up showing what trucks would look like with which drop.

Also different spring rates will play into things. A 500 lb/in spring the exact lenght as a 600 lb/in spring will sit lower because it only takes 500 lbs to drop an inch.

I would have called ECE yesterday while they were open. Don't know if anyone answers the phone on the weekends. Good luck.

Align the top of the spring.
Don't worry about the bottom.

In post #1,... you need to rotate the spring clockwise.

All springs are the same,... no left and rights.

I would drive it.
If you don't like the height,... start trimming them until they set like you want them to.
The only other option is another set of drop springs.

I bought both small block and big block springs from ece and both sets had this problem, if it is one. I figure I'll wait till I have some weight on them and then see what the deal is.

Did you make any changes to correct the issue you described? I just installed a set of 2" drop BB ECE springs over the weekend and have the same issue as you describe.

I lined up the upper portion of the spring correctly in the pocket and the bottom end of the spring is about 1.5" short of sitting in the lower control arm pocket correctly. I planned on just running them as is.

Let me know what you did.
