Doing some searching at the junkyard

I'm going to try to find a whole rolling chassis or at least a front end from a 73-87 1/2 ton 2wheel drive with power steering and disc front brakes. I'm hoping for a decent swap/upgraqde for my 71 C10. I know I need to look for play and wear in general. Is there anything I need to avoid year wize?

Look for the usual wear concerns. Also note that the 88-91 Burbs have the same suspension.

Re: Doing some searching at the junkyard

Power steering was probably about the only real upgrade. I thought that the newer style was supposed to handle better also. I plan on starting a build on a chassis and transfering the body over, but I'm still mulling it over what I want to do. Taking a newer chassis/suspension and modifying for the 71 body to fit didn't seem too big a deal to me, compared to building a new chassis. Also, I want to keep driving my truck and get as much prepared as I can ahead of time. I just got layed off, so I finally have some time and I don't want to waste the opportunity. Thanks for the replies.

The only prob. with '71-'72 is the ball joints are about twice as much as the '73-'87 ones. Thats what happens with a 2 year run.

Re: Doing some searching at the junkyard

I didn't see any suspension parts that I wanted, but did see a partial 68 c10. Almost solid fleet longbed. It's got a bent up hood I wanna get for patches and what not. Located at horseheads pickapart for inquiring minds. I didnt get a cell pic because my eyes were messd up. I went there after getting en eye exam (dilation drops lol)
