Question I'm new.

Hey everybody! My name is Jeremy, currently living in little rock, AR stationed at Little Rock AFB. i dont really know how intros work on this forum or if they are required, so let me know i guess? The reason i joined is that i've been looking at a 64 chevy 3/4 ton, and needed some info. this led me to this site which i've found is a great resource. So anyways, this is the truck http://littlerock.craigslist.org/ctd/1671640604.html. What do you think? rust isn't to bad, bed is completely rotted out, seat needs replaced but it runs and drives pretty well. is this price ridiculous for the condition? ant help would be appreciated.

Welcome, Chief. I had your job on F-105s at George AFB about 30 years ago. Thanks for your service.
That's not a bad deal, I'd offer a little less if you definitely want it, but unless you need the 3/4 ton for towing or hauling, I'd look for a C10 - a little easier on expensive gas, more parts available/adaptable.

Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place.
To me, that looks like a decent deal. But like steverino66 said, do you like the truck just like it is? Because lowering is a chore with a c-20 compared to the c-10's. Also, wheel and brake upgrades are a little harder.

Thanks Steverino, good to hear a fellow crew chief is here! It sounded like they would take 1500, which definitely seems more reasonable. I wont be using it for anything that a 1/2 ton wouldn't be able to do, so i hear you there. how much heavier are the 3/4 tons? i wasn't planning on doing anything but power brakes and a new small block/maybe a big block and a 4 speed. Would i have an easier time with those swaps on a c10? or is it only things like lowering, etc. that are harder to do for 3/4 tons? Thanks!

Yeah i suppose down the line i would want discs up front, so it may be better to go with a 1/2 ton. Are there any factory swap options for front discs on a 3/4 ton? It is an 8 lug.

1/2 or 3/4 you can do a drop and discs, you can also do a disc upgrade and add 5lug if ya want to. I would make a REAL BIG Deal about you NOT needing the 3/4 ton if you go buy it, hesitate about 3 times, say no, I will be looking at another one later today. then when he is hooked, offer 1250.

I agree with all before. Not a bad deal, but sounds like a 1/2 ton would be better if your not doing a lot of towing.

As for it being a C20, it can be changed to C10 running gear without much difficulty. It is really not much more work than going from a C10 with 6 lug to 5 lug with disc's. Just the same I would play it as Clyde suggested. Let us know the outcome.

First and foremost, thank you for your service to our country. I appreciate you and the others defending our freedom.

Secondly, welcome to the forums from Kansas City, KS.

Thirdly, not much info in the add, but the many suggestions above should be duly noted and considered. Furthermore, it is not a must to have disk brakes, five lugs, lowering, etc., etc., etc. Although these are all popular modifications, finding a good rig to start with is equally important. For anything less than $2K, a mechanically sound, roadworthy truck is a great start...knowing that you can do the many desired upgrades/mods., as time, money and resources allow.

In closing, good luck with your pursuit of a '60-'66 Chevy truck and let us know how things shake out for you.

PS - I have a '66 Chevy C20 Custom Camper, that I love and it is the only 3/4 ton I have.

If i could get it for 1250 i would definitely do it, i don't think i'll give them anymore than 1500 though...So it sounds like although i don't NEED a 3/4 ton it wont really cost me anymore for he things i want to do in the short-term (power brakes, 4 speed, new motor). That stovebolt.com link was super helpful as well, definitely gonna make a list of stuff to look at for next time i go up there. Thanks for all of the advice! i think i'm gonna go check it out again tomorrow and ill let you all know how it goes!

Welcome aboard, you'll like it here. This place is full of great people and advice.

I spent almost 12 yrs on F-4, F-5 and T-38's in AR (Aero repair) if that's what they still call it. I got out in 95.
