Gotta question about tie rods...

Hey everyone, I've got a '67 with '74 steering knuckles (1/2 ton). I've got '67 tie rod ends in there now, but they're too small. They just flop around and it would be extremely dangerous to drive. '74s fit the knuckle, but the threads don't fit the adjuster sleeves. I need a happy medium. My solution was to buy 3/4 ton tie rod ends (they fit the adjuster sleeves) and ream out the holes to make them fit. Then I have the added bonus of beefier tie rod ends. Before I do this, are there any easier alternatives? Maybe some kind of adapters? I remember hearing about some kind of adjuster sleeve adapter, but I wouldn't know where to find one. ANY help is greatly appreciated. I wanna get this thing on the road already. I just wanna be safe doing it.

Re: Gotta question about tie rods...

CPP has adjuster sleeves in some pretty custom billet as well as stock configurations, don't no about adapting between two different thread types and sizes but it doesn't seem like a big issue that can't be remedied by calling them to see what's available.

Re: Gotta question about tie rods...

i think the 74 inners will work with the 67 drag link, im running newer spindals with newer inner and outer tie rods with my 68 center link.

Re: Gotta question about tie rods...

Cpp has adapter tie rod adjuster sleeves, 11/16" lh thread on one side and 5/8 rh thread on the other. This may be what you need. They come in different lengths. Not cheap because they are custom billet steel, but if this is the answer to your problem, it beats all of the alternatives ,$50.00 compared to $15.00 for the stock style. I would measure threads, and length needed, then call their tech support before ordering.

Re: Gotta question about tie rods...

OK guys. I've found a solution. I just pulled off my drag link and took it to the store with me. 74 inner and outer tie rods solve my problem. The 74 1/2 ton inners fit my 67 3/4 ton drag link PERFECTLY. I couldn't be happier. And, they're a lot cheaper than 67 stuff. Also, I don't have to wait on them to special order it. There's a stockpile of tie rod ends at the store waiting on me. I just need to go get them. Thanks for all the help.
