axle swap on a 70

Hey,
Two questions:

1. I'm junking out an 85 Suburban. I am taking the whole engine cradle and disk brake assembly out and installing it into the 70 Chev pickup. I know that will work. But I also want to install the rear axle into the 70 (the one from the 85). I'm pretty sure the axle is about a 1/2" - 3/4" wider which shouldn't matter. Or will it?

2. I had found a supplier on the internet that sold all the brackets to mount a leaf type axle into the trailing arm setup on the 70s. Does anyone know what company had this? I think it was around $160 for the brackets. You just cut off the old leaf spring brackets and welded the new ones on. Saved the hassle of trying to cut the old ones off the trailing arm axle neatly.

The good news is I decided to install the 454 and 400 turbo trans into the 70. I asked for a vote a couple of weeks ago and it was 100% for the 454. Which is what I was leaning towards anyway.
This ought to be interesting.
Mike

Would this swap work on the late 70 models as well?
