Question A/c compressor kicks on/off.

I'm trying to recharge my a/c system on an 87 4x4. I crank the truck and turn the a/c on max but the compressor just kicks on and off every 10 seconds or so. I read something about if the system was empty you might have to jump it or reset the ecm. I'm going to atleast try and reset the ecm in the morning but I don't Know about straight wiring it. Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: A/c compressor kicks on/off.

you would have to jump the low psi switch/connector on the side of the accumulator. grab a paper clip and remove the connector and insert paper clip. now the system thinks theres enough psi to close the switch. thus allowing you to fill the system.... i dont remember having to do that, but sounds like you might have to...

Re: A/c compressor kicks on/off.

Thanks. Ok which wires do I jump to which? Also it's the little black-flat plug on top of the compressor, right?

Re: A/c compressor kicks on/off.

You have to jump the switch connector on the side of the accumulator, not the one on the compressor.

The accumulator is the silver cylinder looking thing on the passenger side around the heater box, yes?

Re: A/c compressor kicks on/off.

jump the one in red and charge to about 35 psi on low side and 175-230 on high side if you are using gages
