This would be a great thread if it partained only to 60-66 trucks, but most people who built and sold these trucks new, unfortunately are not around anymore. My interest in new GM trucks ended in 1979, when base models no longer came with white painted hubcaps.

That's true, although some are still around (just not working).

For example, the guy that I worked with in the specifications department started his career in 1960 - he was the guy that "fit the hoods" (with a big rubber mallet!) on the '60 and '61 trucks....



He, of course, retired a few years ago but is still around and in good health.

This paragraph on the last page (page 107) of James K Wagner book "GMC Light Duty Trucks" sumes up exactly why late model trucks are not appealing to me. I often wonder if younger people will have any interest in todays pickups 45 years from now.

Makes me think of a story:

When I was just a young development engineer I received one of my first assignments.

My boss and I took a manual trans truck out to the test track and drove it around. As he stroked it through the gears, he said "...hear that gear whine? You're supposed to fix it."

"Fix it?!?" I said. "I like it!!"



I wonder if younger people will have any interest in any vehicle from today, 45 years from now.
