transfer case not fully disengaging the front wheels?

i got a 93 k2500 5.7, after goin from 4wheel to 2 wheel sometimes if i try and take off fast there is a loud banging come from what sounds like the transfer case. i would understand if it just took a little while to disengage but sometimes it will do it after days of no 4 wheel drive though not as bad. it started suddenly after i change my front drive shaft out with one i got from a salvage yard. and did some work in the front diff. could something i did doin that be causing my problems

They say you should back up about 40ft after done using 4wd so the hubs can unlock.

And its only from 4wd to 2wd and doesn't make it when in 4wd.

I never back mine up.I think there`s more to it.I`m not sure if the actuator not fully disengaging wouldn`t cause a sound from there.I don`t think it`s adjustment.I had a problem in my case where it popped to between 2-hi and 4-hi when coming off the hiway. It was some synchronizer gone bad.

is this something that just started over time and gradually got worse or something that happened over night?
