Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
You could use the Astro rotor with the brackets that I'm making, but use the '76-'78 Eldorado calipers that have a built in e-brake. The Cardone numbers for them are 16-4116 and 16-4117. The online price is $110.00 ea. plus a core of $24.50 for one and $13.50 for the other.

What about this caliper...it is from a 1985 Cadillac Seville...this if from RockAuto.com: (price, core, total) A-1 CARDONE Part # 164139 {Loaded; [Caliper w/Installation Hardware & Pad] Reman.}Rear Left; w/Casting #020L, #021R; OE Metal Piston;Semi-Metallic Pads ( $90.89, $30.00, $120.89) A-1 CARDONE Part # 164138 {Loaded; [Caliper w/Installation Hardware & Pad] Reman.}Rear Right; w/Casting #020L, #021R; OE Metal Piston;Semi-Metallic Pads ( $90.89, $30.00, $120.89) Would these work on your brakets? I have seen these on eBay for less than $150 for a pair minus the pads.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
Those calipers are the 'Metric' calipers. They are sized for rotors that are in the 1" thick range. That is the style of calipers that I was using with the Lincoln rotors. The Astro rotors are 1.250" thick.

Yes they will work. They are designed to work with the 12 bolt truck differentials from '64-'81 and the 10 bolt truck differentials from '82-'87.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
OK, I received a Wilwood D52 dual 2" piston caliper from smashingchuck today.....thanks Chuck! I'm glad I waited to ship these brackets. It was nothing major, but this set of brackets are going to require a little bit of clearencing. You can see what I mean in the following pics. I will be updating my CAD drawings to reflect the needed change for the Wilwood dual piston calipers. Otherwise they fit well and look awesome.
I want to thank smashingchuck for allowing me to use this thread for developing these brackets.

Excellent work!
Do you have a source to powdercoat these brackets?

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
First I'll need to find some 13" 5x5" rotors. So far the only OEM 13" rotors I've found are 6x5.5"
I thought someone was making them after that deal ScotI was working on a year or so ago.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
Your brackets are at the powder coaters. They should be done by the end of the week....hopefully. I will be posting the cost once I find out how much they will be.

Earlier you stated that you're truck had a 12 bolt. 86's didn't come with 12 bolts, they came with 10 bolts. Has someone changed the rear end to a 12 bolt? These brackets will work on truck 10 bolts up thru '87 on the trucks and thru '91 on the Suburbans.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
I don't know. I have never seen a truck newer than about '81-'82 with a 12 bolt from the factory. Are you sure it's a 12 bolt? Either way these brackets will fit.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
yup i just got the rear end gasket changed and the bolts i had broken in there taken out and tapped again. so its definately a 12 bolt, now how it got back there its a mystery. Its a good thing though right, supposedly its stronger then the 10 bolt or am i wrong again?
Im just glad your brackets will work. |

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
Yes typically the 12 bolts are stronger than the 10 bolts. The 10 bolts will withstand a fair amount of abuse though.

As far as the front rotors, the Dodge Ram stuff im using only requires redrilling the lug pattern. its 13.1" forgot the thickness, will check alldata, and a difference that I can tell from autozones website is the overall depth of the rotor, front to back is about .25-.5" deeper. anyway, I'll post some pictures tonight.

Re: My whole braking system - thinking out loud
this is the front rotor setup I was mentioning earlier..
I must have been in a hurry and didnt double check the spacing in the autocad file becuase I drilled the frist patten to 5.25.. lol... these rotors are at minimum anyway, but the second pattern (shoulda been the 1st) was spot on. ![]() and with the rotor turned upside down, you can see how it fits perfectly onto the stock replacment rotor and already has a bevel. For those who will notice the studs dont stick out much.. the stock rotor was not turned into a hub yet so the Dodge rotor was sitting down on the stock rotor surface.. I think the studs will need to be longer anyway ![]() Weather permitting, I will be going to the pick and pull for a spindle nut and washer... Ace hardware didnt have a 3/4x20 nut, or castle nut... plus they want 5 bucks anyway.. then I will be able to snug everything down and start working on the caliper adapter bracket ![]() clint
