Local Driving or Traveling

Just wondering do you take your truck out of your local area on the highway or do you keep them local. I live at the jersey shore and everything by me is by Parkway just wondering if you guys take your trucks distances without worrying.

mine is in mothballs but before it was i started in Staten Island drove into brooklyn then to Boston down to Woodbridge Nj then back to NYC. The next week i drove from NYC to Binghamton with it and its made that trip several times.... considering the distance between here and California thats pretty well just local driving

I live in upstate NY and went down to Myrtle Beach for my sisters 40th birthday. No problems at all. While I was down there I noticed a noise\vibration that got worse with speed. Rear "U" joint decided it was going to puke. NAPA was right there. I had to buy a big hammer, a little hammer and a 7/16ths wrench and change it right in the street. I knew I should have brought tools with me, but didn't. I have to make a run to Texas in the near future & I don't have any problem with it. I will have a "guardian angel" though watching over Anne and I as we go AND this time the tools make the trip too. A special thanks to BOB. Jim

Yea I have some tools in my box I actually gave a new u joint in my glove box lol. I am thinking of taking the truck to wildwood which is about 100 miles from me

I've done 1100 miles on one trip! I take mine out any chance I get. Especially long drives. OD is better than city driving!!

I guess it just depends on what kind of driving you are used to. I don't think twice about running an 80-100 mile round trip somewhere. I'd easily do a 500 mile trip and not really think about it. I'm working on the mechanical stuff now cause I'm planning on towing my Harley out to South Dakota and back at the end of August. (about 3k maybe?) The U joints are on my list of 'things to replace proactively' before the trip.

i drove mine every where i needed to go, always had tools because you just never know.. but i have never had a show truck with a fancy paint job, while i like them, i know id probably cry if i had a fancy paint job that cost alot of money an it got scrathed or messed up, why i like primer or factory paint... that an the fact i use my trucks as a truck kinda makes it hard to get to in depth as afar as building one up... but it does make people look at you wierd when you ask them why they cant haul in a couple of yards of gravel in there nice new truck,,lol.. now with me haveing a van now instead of a truck i will probably be gettign looks frompeople when i head done to the home depot an get a load of lumber if i need one,lol..

I'll take mine as far as I need to go, not scared of taking it way out of town either.
Most of the time I stay within 40 miles of my house just because between college and work I don't get out much lol.

Flew to Montana and drove mine back to Michigan: around 1500 miles.

First time I personally had driven it in over 20 years!

My previous C10 was driven all over Wisconsin as my tow vehicle for my DJ trailer. It was common to drive 3 hours to a show and another 3 home. The only negative I experienced was the 472 caddy and TH400 equaled about 10 mpg, good think I had two gas tanks.

Drive my suburban from Los Angeles to NY for school every summer. I carry a long list of tools, fluids, belts, hoses, and quite a few spare parts. Made the trip a couple times and never had more than a minor problem with it overheating because of a bad radiator cap.

I drive mine as far as I can afford to... I had it down to McAllen once, when gas was cheaper. That's about a 5 hour drive. The only problem I had was the wing window broke off in my hand. I had a lot of tools with me, but I was completely unprepared for that.

mine stays with in 20 miles from home 99.9% of the time. But i have never been afrade to to go farther. i have used it to haul a trailer 1 and 1/2 HR one way to pick up stuff, i made that trip 4 times last year and never had a prob.

Mostly a local daily driver but I've been to Richmond several times (3 hours round trip), Blacksburg (10 hours round trip), Charlotte NC (12 hours round trip) and I'm headed to Super Chevy this weekend 4-5 hours round trip.

The farthest mine has gone out of town is 80 miles round trip, for gas mileage reasons when I have a v6 half-ton sitting around.

not trying to jack the trhead or anything but when you guys are cruisin in the e-way, what kind of rpms are you turnin? i have a 355/350 with 342 gears and 31s and i wondered what a safe rpm would be to hold it at for a long(ish) trip?
you guys with OD are lucky lol

I turn like 2300 at 55 MPH, according to the speedo.

I used to turn 2500 at like 60-62 but its an amazing difference them 200 RPMS make on gas mileage and just the quality of the ride and the way it handles. I think that any RPM under 2500 held constantly should be alright. Make sure your good on oil, atf, and coolant before you leave though!

well the speed limit here in michigan is 70. and at 75 im turnin like 3k.. at 65-70 im turning about 27-28oo. i usually only go a few miles at a time on it but wondered if its safe to run it that high for like an hour straight

My Suburban goes anywhere my family needs to go. It gets driven locally everyday, and in recent years has went to Florida 3 times, Tennessee a couple, eastern PA, and also went to Minnesota. The more long trips it goes on, the better it does. This last trip to Florida had zero malfunctions. Brand new vehicles are overated
