What type of plastic?

I need some help, I'm trying to figure out what type of plastic the door panels off the 73-87 series trucks is. I bought some Plast-aid to try and repair a crack in one ofmy door panels before I paint it but it doesn't look like it is going to stick. Although it sticks to pvc like you wouldn't believe.

You won't find anything that will stick. I broke the bottom corner off one of my door panels. I called a buddy who builds structural scale models for a living and asked what would fix them. He looked at it and said "nothing" is going to stick. We made a patch to span the crack on the back side and used pure silicon to hold it as a temporary fix.

you know what would stick... a pieces of the door panel.. go to the wrecking yard and on a broken pos panel, cut you some chunks off and there ya go. make strips out of it and go from there.

OK guys, get ready for a good laugh, but this works. Make sure you have the panel off and can easily access the broken\cracked area. If it's cracked, find the end of the crack and drill a tiny hole there. Sand the crap out of the back surface and save the sanding dust, your going to need it. Now the funny\DANGEROUS part. On a real clean surface, preferably steel, warm up a plastic milk container until you can roll it into a stick of plastic. Let it cool until just warm. Get your panel and in some way secure it down and take the sanding dust you have and make a little ridge the length of the repair. Now, get your propane torch and set your plastic stick on fire at the end. It's going to start dripping, then it will start to run. Get down close enough to the panel to "run a bead" using the "run off" from the stick. Be real careful not to overheat the panel. Keep a spray bottle handy and a wet towel underneath the panel. I would try this on a junk panel first. Basicly, your welding, just on plastic and not steel. I would try another adhesive first before I went to the trouble of welding. I don't know for sure, but could the plastic be "ABS" and not PVC? I know the glue for ABS will not work on PVC and visa-versa. There should be a stamp in the panel that identifies the material, right?

I had success using the Fusor product from Lord products on motorcycles and metal repair. Here's a link to some of there products.

I have had good luck using a soldering iron and use it as a welder for plastics. Cut off some extra pieces of plastic off the back of the panel and use as a welding rod.

I figured, I was hoping there was some magic adhesive or something out their for this type of plastic. :-(

This looks interesting, do you know what type of plastic these door panels are made of?

The short answer is it will be a patch might last 2 years if that long.
