Re: Transmission crossmember

I think you can, but have to mount it farther back. The CPP crossmemeber is a bit more expensive than the junk yard special, but is so much easier to work with.

Re: Transmission crossmember

Yes, the TH350 crossmember works fine for a 700R4. Just bolt the trans to the crossmember and drill new holes in the frame rails where the corssmember sits.

Re: Transmission crossmember

Thanks Beat and Texas.
Texas: I saw your build thread and I know I need finishing firstable the automatic conversion but I saw you install a suburban rear end five lugs and should be my next project, can you tell me what year can I use?
the reason is here in San Diego every first days of the month there is a junk yard they sell parts 50% off.

I used a 71-72 Suburban rear end. The 71-72 has 5 lug wheel bolt pattern which I wanted and it's a straight bolt in for earlier 6 lug coil spring suspended trucks. An added advantage of the Suburban rearend is that it has 2 3/4 inch wide brakes versus most pickup brakes being 2 inches wide.

Re: Transmission crossmember

That crossmember needs to go. You'll end up with just the crossmember under the tail end of your new 700R4.
