New paint job on my 72 burb - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well here she it! I have to confess that it turned out better than I expected and I love the color. The painter brought her home this morning so I've been busy trying to put everything back together again.
What do you all think?

I'm concerned about leaving it out because we have a lot of Maple trees around us. I've heard that the seeds and leaves from Maples can eat away at the paint. I keep it in the carport for now, but was thinking about getting a car cover for it. Do you think covers are any good?

Great looking Burb. Love the combination of the blue and white. Car covers can abrade the paint when the vehicle is outside and there is any wind. I'd keep it inside or at least under the carport. I have lots of maples too - the seed casings get down in the cowl, between fenders etc. They can hold moisture so inside or covered by carport is best IMO.

very nice. I've used car covers for years - but always keep a fresh coat of wax on the paint, and remove the cover in heavy winds - because it could be abrasive on the paint. I've also had good luck with 100% cotton - after a few washes mine soften'd up pretty good.

Thanks everyone! As you can see from the first picture the windshield is cracked all the way across. I think that will be one of my first projects after I get it all put back together.
Does anyone know if a windshield from a 72 truck will fit on a 72 burb. I would think so, but just want to make sure.

Yeah, a truck windshield will be the same. Hopefully, you will not have to paint anything around the windshield area when you put the new one in. There maybe some touchup around it. If you can save your original weatherstrip too, would be a plus. Most of the aftermarket weatherstrip for windows is bad quality. Trevor

I really wanted chrome bumpers but with everything else this burb needs right now, I'll proably stay with them the way they are.

Are bumpers easy to find for our trucks? I like the style on the front of your truck without the rubber uprights (or whatever you call them). Also, my rear is banged up from previous owner(s).

I wouldn't mind bolting up new front and rear pieces.

Burban bumpers are the same as the truck bumpers , usually the only difference will be with the rear, burbans only except certain styles with the stock brackets.

And look out for the cheap emitations ... they are a lighter metal and not as safe as the true units.

Does anyone know when it would be safe to wax my burb? It's been almost a month since the paint job. Also, what wax would you recommend?

I was told that you should wait 6-12 months before waxing.....If you need to wax, my painter said you could use Meiguire's #7.....

you will get conflicting information on this. MOST painters/shops will tell you wait 30 days and I think manufacturers say the same. There is 1 custom painter, Craig Frasier of AirSyndicate, (WORLD renown shop that works extensively with HOK and MANY other manufacturers.) that says NO quality wax will harm the paint finish after 6 days. Paint take 6 days to fully cure in the open. If it was BAKED it takes @30 days because the paint forms a hard shell and the solvents have to force there way out. He says shops wont do it because they 1) don't want to do it and 2.) have ALWAYS passed this info down from when waxes were not as good. Use a good quality CARNUBA wax and get to WAX ON, WAX OFF!
