GMC suspension questions
I am about to pickup a 84 chevy frame and intend on swapping its suspension in my 64 GMC. The 64 has rear leafs and my question is, will it bolt right in? Can I use the later model leafs? Any mods?
Thanks in advance.

Re: GMC suspension questions
There is about 1/2" difference in the spacing of the spring pads between the '64 and the '84. If your spring bushings are loose enough, you might be able to move them enough to be able to bolt the '84 rear differential up. The correct way would be to cut the spring pads off, move them and weld them on. The shock mounts will be different as well. As for the springs themselves, they are not interchangeable. You could use the '84 springs though if you transfered the hangers also.

Re: GMC suspension questions
I had a feeling i would need to move those pads and if i remember correctly the shocks are split, one goes back and ones goes forward. 64 both go forward. I will do whatever mods i need to the axle and not the frame. Thanks for your help and i will look you up when i install the front cross member with power steering.

Re: GMC suspension questions
Havent finished the column. I will make a trip at the end of next month to Oklahoma to get some free parts from my dad. Fresh set of heads, NEW COLUMN, front and rear 5 lug disc members, engine components and what ever else i can find at his place. He's got a few later models laying around. Might find a serpintine setup, etc. Ive put in some glass, finished the gas tank and buffed the paint. thats really it since we spoke last. My daughter graduates next month so I have been using up all the cash on her. She signs up for college in June and theres not much left over for these trucks.
What about you? That big block scrapping speed bumps yet?
