another disc conversion question
wanting to swap my 67 c10 to disc 5 lug. ive heard and kinda gathered that i can put 73-87 upper control arms, spindle, disc, etc directly on and just put 73-87 balljoints in the stock lower arm and it all works with the only "technical" part being to adapt tie rods. thanks guys.

Re: another disc conversion question
I sell a bunch of these conversions. I recommend that you take everything from the 73up including the cross member, tie rod, etc. and simply bolt the whole thing to your frame. Then hook it up to your steering box and you are good to go.

Re: another disc conversion question
Best way to get everything to work together is to go to your local junk yard and get the entire front suspension from a 73-87. It unbolts with 14 bolts and will bolt up on your 67 with 2 holes installed and all holes slightly enlarged. If you get one in good shape you can even use the brake hoses, proportioning valve, and hard brake lines. Best way is to have them just cut the frame right behind the front suspension. Saves them work and ensures you have all the parts.

Re: another disc conversion question
BTW, see my build thread below. I just got done with this swap onto a 67 frame, including moving over the sway bar and sway bar mounts.

Re: another disc conversion question
It is the easiest way, I did it the hard way and used 73-87 bjs/outter tie rods and used custom sleeves to adapt the 68 inners. Spindles were bought (drop spindles) and I bought aftermarket 6lug rotors to keep my rears from swapping to 5lug.

oh and edit: replacement parts are half the price (73-87 parts compared to 71/72 parts) Last edited by Deaol; 04-20-2010 at 11:50 PM. |

Re: another disc conversion question
Plus swapping a 73+ cradle will give you the better motor mounts.. But the better motor mounts make the engine a pita to get back in but other then that, vastly superior the 67-72 style in my opinion.

Re: another disc conversion question
Recently I found a 71 in the junk yard. And remove the differential, rotors, spindles and tie rods
all for $150.. Last edited by c1069; 04-21-2010 at 01:43 AM. |
