what do i have to do to change over to synthetic oil in my 350?what would be the best brand and weight to use?

Drain the old, remove the filter, pour in the new. Nothing to it. Mobil 1.
If you keep it changed, it may not get you anything. You'll still need to change the oil every 3000 miles. Not because the synthetic breaks down but because you will still pick up dirt and grime that the filter needs to remove. If you are running a real tight tolerance engine, then by all means run it, but if it is a high mileage, I wouldn't bother. Just keep it changed regularly and the regular stuff works just fine.

i thought there was more too it then just changing the oil,my motor does have high miles but im planning on getting a rebuilt 350 soon, so should i even run it in my new motor?

I'd have to say it's a personal preference if it's not a high tolerance or high revving engine. Most modern vehicles, including the smaller, high-rev engines don't require it for warranty. Those that do tend to be your higher end, higher performance engines. If you keep the oil and filter changed at or about the 3000 mile (or 3 months if city driving) you should get plenty of miles and years out of it. I've owned a number of cars that have had at or over 100k miles and no synthetic oil.
In the end, it's entirely up to you and your pocket book.
