LCA Ball joints
Hello fellas, long tim no post. So now that Im out of my financial slums, Ive gotten back to work on Ye Olde GMC. Im trying to get the lower control arm ball joints out. And brother, they aint coming. Any ideas on how to get these out. If Im not mistaken they are pressed in. I put them in a press and the arm itself started to bend so I shut down that idea. Only other thing I can think of is a torch but wanted some ideas from you guys before I went to cuttin'. What yall think?

Re: LCA Ball joints
I used PB Blaster, and a BFH and they came out after a few wacks when the press wouldnt do the job. Watch those fingers.

Re: LCA Ball joints
I used a short section of tubing a wee bit bigger than the ball joint to support the surrounding area underneath and a smaller (but longer) piece for the top side.
It kept everything square and localized the pressure to just the bj area. My press is only a small 20 ton and it worked great for this. PS I'm always on the lookout for short bits of tubing (the thicker wall the better) and solid bar to use with my press. And don't trust your chopsaw to make a sqaure cut, true them up on a lathe (I don't think a shop would charge too much,if anything) Hope this helps T

Re: LCA Ball joints
Well, long story short... they come out alot easier if your pressing them out the right way <facepalm> Thanks for the suggestions anyhow. Got them out nicely once I was going out the right direction.
