so Ive had my truck for probably 4 years now, and I'm slowly working through the little problems I've had with it and ironing out the bugs. I've been putting off troubleshooting my washer fluid pump for some time now..but I'm wondering if there is a trick to it.

when i pull the knob, the pump makes pumping sounds, but nothing comes out...i think maybe it lost its prime? is there a trick to re-priming the pump or to I have to tear the whole thing apart? I dont even know where the pump is... forgive me as I havent really spent much time looking at it yet since Ive been busy with other things..

Common problem with GM's. The pump is part of the wiper motor, it's that thing with the 3 hoses attached to it. You can buy a rebuild kit at most auto parts stores. It's possible that the lines or nozzles are plugged, but probably the pump thing.

In a recent thread it was suggested that keeping the pump running for a minute or two might re-prime it. I tried it on mine and it worked. I still need to check the hoses because mine only works on one side, but at least I know the pump does work.

i agree with checking all the lines for dryrot and being pinched also a needle in the nozzel to make sure its open if that fails i'd prefer to just change out the pump rather than the rebuild kit as far as changing or rebuilding either way its a super pain in the butt getting up under the dash to do it especially if its an AC cab

As far as location. Follow your rod coming up from your accelerator, about a foot up on the left is where mine is.

I had 2 new pumps put on my truck. All new hoses , and nozzles not clogged.
They both failed after 10 times using them. So I installed a universal pump. I mounted it by the tank. I bought it at NaPa. I use a toggle switch to operate it.

Mine has never worked but after reading about the rebuild kit maybe ill stand on my head to see if I can change it out o finally make the washers work..

I bought the rebuild kit and installed it before I put the dash together. It never worked right so I put a tank in with the pump in the bottom. Works great and I put a push button under the bottom edge of the dash. It's easy to reach and you can't see it unless your looking for it.
