Even if you're never planning to use it again, don't toss it - I get $75 apiece for that converter, they're recycled for the platinum in 'em.

Re: catalytic converter removal?

"Back in the day", when catalytic convertors were new to the automotive scene, there were Test Pipes, which replaced your convertor so you could "test" your vehicle w/o it and "see" if it was bad, or not. Usually, it was "bad" so it didn't get reinstalled....okay, right?

Finding a shop that will remove it is probably not going to happen unless you know the owner and he's feeling lucky.

On the other hand, I've seen vehicles parked in the usual clandestine spots with For Sale signs on them and also seen the tell-tale sign that someone with a Sawzall had been by and harvested the convertor.

Now, there's an option....

hey i must be blessed there is a shop down the street from me that as long as u go up and personally talk to him will cut it for 40 bucks that includes a pipe welded in. i got mine cut off and that same day two of my friends stopped to see if i was there and in about 5 minutes of talking gave them the same price so i know he will even though he gives you the "i am really not supposed to" line haha it does make a difference especiialy in sound

Re: catalytic converter removal?

Good for you. There are shops that won't do anything but replace a convertor because they face a $10,000 fine for removing it and not replacing it.
