Bolts holding the bed on
I started to take the bed off my truck today to inspect the hose from the fuel pump to the sending unit, since my truck has all the same symptoms and problems that are in this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=357014 Unlike my old 79 K10 the bolts dont go through the bed, are the nuts welded to the crossmembers? I could feel the nuts near the bumper and they are massively deteriorated. I broke loose all 6 of the forward bolts, but chickened out on the last ones and decided to post first.

Re: Bolts holding the bed on
Air impact.....but use liberally-applied rusty nut lube. Can't think of the name of the stuff. Not WD-40. I hate when my short-term memory issues become longer lasting.

Re: Bolts holding the bed on
Try Db blaster. It works great spray it on and wait a few minutes then put the air tools to it. If you don't have air tools just try and give it a quick snap with the wrench this often times will brake it loose.

Re: Bolts holding the bed on
Think you guys meant PB Blaster. You may need a nut remover if it's heavly corroded. Definatley put an impact on it and hope the nut or bolt itself breaks.

Re: Bolts holding the bed on
I used industrial grade from the railroad penetrating oil on the first 6 and it worked great, but after feeling the last one I want to make sure the nuts are welded to the bed, it would be a ***** to hold the nuts in place while trying to put the bolts back in.

Re: Bolts holding the bed on
I would recommend PB Blaster as well. Works really good. Although I had to remove the bolts again when replacing the bed after having them out only a few months earlier. I also used never seize on them then, and they still were a B-Atch to get out. My impact would not get them, so I hung on to the frame for dear life while using my legs with a quick kick method to turn a conglomoration of extensions on a ratchet. Mkine came out super hard, but in one piece. Knock the rust off them and good luck.
