question of a 496 bigblock

Wondering if anyone has placed a 496 in there 1980 c-10. im trying to see what kinda modifications would have to be done to the truck the handle 650hp and 675 lbs which is what the kit will putout that im looking at.

Possibly boxing the frame to handle all that power.
Any and all help would be nice its just a though in the mind of a teen kid

Re: question of a 496 bigblock

I had a 500hp 454 with no problems in mine at one point in the ten years I've had it.
great on the street .
from a dead stop traction is a problem , so I would address them hooking issues & forget about boxing the frame , I'm not sure adding weight is the best thing to do .

I have 81 swb

well my plans are its basically going to be my daily driver.... im looking to show the stupid import drivers up cause i heard that the sound between a 383 and 496 are hard to tell apart until you have listened to both of them side by side... not sure about that..... im going to do either one of these motors for sure and then back it with my turmac T5 manual trans that i just bought

Cal-Tracs and some sticky street tires should get you there. Plan on doing something with your driveshaft if your going to run a stick.

Which model Tremec T5 do you have? Most of the world class T5s are only rated at 300 lb ft of torque. Better buy a tranny blanket.

Re: question of a 496 bigblock

back in the day I used to blow muncies & super t10 out of my 70 c-10
I'm not sure a t5 is going to survive & that was with a 300hp 350
but Good luck

I dont know trannies well.. but i'd think something like an nv4500 wuld be a better plan than a t5 when it comes to lasting...
