I tried searching this because I'm sure it's been covered but this sites search owns me... Why do they have the short and tall versions of the trans hump? Is the tall hump for the 4x4's? Will the small hump still fit on the 4x4's?

manual trans 2wd trucks and all 4x4 trucks had the tall hump. It was needed for trans/transfer case clearance. If you had a body lift on a 4wd you could prob get away with a low hump. other prob know more about this than me though.

BB automatic 2 wheel drive had tall humps as well as the 4x4's.Some were bolted in some were spot welded.

TALL HUMPS ARE BOLTED IN & SMALL HUMPS ARE WELDED IN. YOU CAN CUT OUT A SMALL HUMP & REPLACE IT WITH (bolt in) BIG HUMP. HOPE THIS HELPS. JOHN

big block automatics, all 4 speeds, and all 4X4 got high humps. All others were supposed to be low hump floors.

learn something from you everyday! I didn't know that bb autos had the high hump, and I thought all manuals had the high....shows how much I know

Yep, big block/TH400 would get the high hump. The small handfull of big block 3 speed trucks had the low hump though.
A common mistake, many think that all TH400 trucks had it, but that's not true.
Every once in a while an oddball went out. I had a 69 C/1500 (GMC 1/2 ton) with a 305 and TH400. For some reason, it had the high hump. I figured it was the 305 V6 that did it, but after looking around, it was the only one. Even saw another SWB C/1500 with the 305/TH400... and it was a low hump.

I have a 69 C10 straight 6 with a 3 speed. I think it came with a factory column shifter but it now has a Hurst Indy shifter on the floor. Would this be a low hump or a high hump? I plan on replacing the entire floor because I have tons of rust, and I would like to get the correct replacement. Thank you in advance for any help. Oh, forgot to mention, I plan on swapping a big block with a T56 in later on, hope that helps on determining if I need a small hump or a tall hump
