to build or to part?????

ok, so i have been gathering parts forever for my 67 project and recently i have really started to change directions in life. currently im working as an automotive restorer for a private car collection in southern kansas city and i have all the tools and skills to build a great truck, but after 7 years in this field i have decided its just not something i want to do full time. i have decided to go back to school to become a pharmacist and i start in mid aug. so the question is should i put in the hours to finish up the truck enough to sell it as a running driving truck or part it out. im not very good at the whole parting it out think i have tried it before and the shipping just ends up being a big time stealer. what do you think?? the truck would be a 67 shortebed with a 415 ci small block 18's and 20's and dropped pretty low but still drivable. so sell it or part it, which would make more money?? would the work be worth extra money if any was made or would the parting it out make more and the time waiting for tire kickers to buy it be a waste? thanks in advance.

Re: to build or to part?????

from my experiance in the car bidness [ha ha] and owning a body shop since 1987 and fooling with old muscle cars and trucks, you would get more from a runnig driving piece. You also stated worry or concern about tire kickers but you will also have people waste your time with the parts aspect also. Now I am not talking about anyone one this board because all I have heard has been great here. Jim

Exactly; why not finish it and keep it?

Set it aside and save it if you can. After you've been a pharmacist for awhile, you may find yourself nostalgic for the old times, and then you might not mind so much doing it for a hobby. The truck will wait for you.

If it were me, I'd put it together to get it drivable.

You have the skills, so there is no excuse!

Re: to build or to part?????

I will have a truck one day but it just won't be this one. I will be quitting my job to go back to school so this truck will be giving it's life to help with living expenses. I think I will start parting out some of the things and maybe sell the rolling chassis with a finished cab on it as a whole.

Re: to build or to part?????

Parting it will get you more money at this point. You are going to have to put more money into it to get it "finished" so i say part it out. Good luck with whatever you do.
