A question for you

This is my 1970. I'm going to start tearing her down next month. She has a little age under the molding and we are going to remove the molding on the sides and tailgate, shave the door handles and do a couple other things. I refer to "we" as me and my 14 year old son. I think he is finally old enough to understand the process and be able to take it all in. What we would like to know from everyone is what front end should we go with. The 1970 front end or the 67-68 front end. My son would like to change it because he likes the 67-68 front end better. I've heard it will bolt right up. What do you think. Any ideas.

Personally, I wouldn't change a thing! Nonetheless, this is your truck and anytime you can find something to share with the chitlens....it's a good thing. To answer your question: Yes, a 67/68 front end will bolt up, but you will need to source the fenders, hood, grill and core support to do it. If going repop you're talking a small chunk-o-change. Used parts are out there, but you'll probably have to do some rust repair and other typical bodywork to get them paintable. But since you're shaving handles and trim- it sounds like you aren't afraid of a little welding, grinding and body filler.

As much as I love the '67/68 front grill (and yes I am basised) It would be a crying shame to change the very good looking image of your truck.

I vote to leave it as is.

But if you do change it (correct me if I am wrong) you will have to change out the front radiator support as well when you swap out the hood and fenders.

Thanks Oarngesi. I trying to let my son have a little say so he'll feel like he has a voice too, but to say all that daddy's footing the bill so I have to keep some of the ideas to a mininum.

Yes changes will have to be made, and as soon as mommy finds out how much all this is going to cost our living quarters my change too......

Drewdude92 thanks for your commits. I have thought about that too, but he is going to be drive shortly and he whats a jeep to drive full time. I have three trucks, a car and a harley and then a jeep. So if I bring anymore trucks to my has house well mommy will run both of us off.

Part of the lesson your son should learn is that decisions have consequences. Since you are fronting the money he doesn't have to consider the cost to do the change. A lot of decisions we make in life have consequences, and the sooner he learns that the better off he will be.

I say make him pay for the new parts. The front end of the truck you have may look more appealing to him.

IMO... the truck looks amazing as it sits, but to each their own, and good luck with the rebuild.

As far as the front end... leave it '69/70.

If the front clip is definitely going to be changed, remember, that you could always sell the clip on it now to finance the 67-68 front clip? Just a suggestion? Personally, I think it looks great as is.
