Help ! Help ! Help!

I just pulled my 307 and trans out with a cherry picker and i'm wanting to mount it on my engine stand. so, i know that i have to remove my trans from the motor. I removed all the bolts from the bell housing and was able to separate it about an inch or more, but I can't go any further. I asked around and they said it should just slide off. Well its not ? Not sure what kind of Trans i have but its a three on the tree.

also does the flywheel stay with with the motor of with the trans when they are separated?

Re: Help ! Help ! Help!

Set it down, on the floor and wiggle the transmission. Sometimes the input shaft gets hung up in the pilot bushing.

The flywheel stays attached to the crankshaft on the engine. ElJay answered your other question.

Re: Help ! Help ! Help!

OK ill try setting it on the floor, but im not sure if my picker will go that low. I'll try in a day or so. Thought the flywheel stayed with the motor cause i could see the housing move but not the fly. I did alot of wiggling though. I had the picked low and the trans supported my a jack.

Yikes! Be careful taking stuff like that apart when it's not on the ground... it weighs A LOT more than you will be ready to catch when it let's loose.

Re: Help ! Help ! Help!

If it won't go all the way to the floor then put it in the bed of the truck on a sheet of plywood. Like stated above it won't let go until you take the tension off of the input shaft. Good luck!

Re: Help ! Help ! Help!

Lower it down so the trans sets into a kids wagon. Then pull on the wagon... I watched a buddy of mine do that with a Ford 302 and a T5...

Re: Help ! Help ! Help!

When I did mine I used two old tires and sat the motor and tranny on them worked great.

I've never used a tire for a tranny, but any time I have an engine out I set it in an old tire. The oil sump fits nicely in the sunken in part of the wheel. It works well for when you have to haul one in the back of a truck too.

Re: Help ! Help ! Help!

I have only changed spark plugs, wires and rotated tires before. So pulling a motor and trans out and rebuilding a whole truck is really new to me. I told my dad this would go alot faster if either on of us new what we were doing. But, between the both of us we have alot of people we can call if we need help.

Re: Help ! Help ! Help!

OH off the subject. I notice the fly wheel ring gear has started to get a bevel to it and looks like i should get a new one. I checked in to a new one and its rather cheap. I figure since im replacing the clutch ill replace that as well.
