What causes electrical problems in the steering column?

I just traced my headlight problem to the steering column. Now I'm not sure what to look for and where. My left turn signal works but the right doesn't. Anyone have any ideas?

most likely the turn signal switch has crapped out.....can you wiggle the turn lever...and have the right signal come on?? How about the hazard switch?

My hazard's come on steady, no blinking. When i put the turn signal on to the right it just stays lit steady. I haven't tried jiggling the turn signal thing though. I've traced the problem to the column because when it's plugged in, my front yellow lights and side blinker lights come on steady even when my headlight switch is not on.
