Re: 4l80e??

yes it does, but your 98 crewcab's ecu for the engine also controls the transmission...I'm putting a 6.2l diesel in front of the 4l80e, so I need one without an engine harness connected to it...I think they came in 91 suburbans, but I'd like to be sure before I go looking for one...

Re: 4l80e??

looked some information up and it seems that the 92-93 4l80e that came behind a 6.5 diesel is standalone...there's some good info in this forum I found...

Re: 4l80e??

TCI makes one, but it's $800 or something like that...maybe it's $500 but that's still alot of scratch when I can get one for next to nothing at the pull a part...

Re: 4l80e??

I think mechanical injection 6.5L turbo diesel trucks have a standalone computer to control a 4L80E, but they have be reprogrammed since the shift points would be way off for a gas engine.

I've always wondered if you could take a computer from a newer truck, and reprogram it so it's just controlling the transmission. Might be a good deal if the computer, wiring harness, and programming service would come in at less than a aftermarket computer.

Re: 4l80e??

I'm going to be putting it behind a 6.2 turbo diesel, so I'll be good with that...

Re: 4l80e??

Are you talking about the 4l80 or 4l80e cause the e means electronic push button 4wd instead of the stickshift on the floor. '93 or maybe '94 and up 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups up till the 2000s not sure exactly when they stopped never had nothing that new yet lol.

the "E" in 4L80e has nothing to do with 4wd.

im putting a 4l80e in my 90 454ss and im using a baumann controller, its controlled by a tps sensor i got from innovate since in using a 4150 style carb.

Re: 4l80e??

They are all e's. The push transfer case is sepperate all together. The e just stands for electronic controled. Same for the 4l60e which is just a 700r4 but controled electronicly rathere than the tv cable.

Re: 4l80e??

Oh really damn I didn't know that I had been told the e meant the electronic pushbutton for the 4x4 but thanks for correcting me! Always learning something new on here

Re: 4l80e??

If you are just trying to source one they were available starting in the 1991 1T. Supposedly they were in some Box trucks with stand alone harness also. I used to have the controller # but can't find it.
