Header question
I have a stock 305. Automatic Transmission. Power steering. 1981 Sierra Grande. I'm going to purchase some headers and need to know. if the shorty Header or the full length, Header which would be the best way to go. How can I tell what my stock exhaust manifold is shorty or full length? Looks kinda short to me. exhaust Actually connects up close to the engine at firewall.

You should not need shorty headers unless you plan to lower the truck. Even then you might not need them depending on how low you go.

Full length will work fine, My 97 has full length with 4" drop without issues. Got 3" drop on my 74 with full length with no issues either.

if your looking in on tucking your exhaust closer to the floor board the go with the chevelle header... some people like to go above the cross member then go below it thats what they use....

i have long tube headers with a 4/6 drop and theres a little room from the groung but have to be real careful of road conditions iv hit them on a few things but you get a bit more horse power from long tubes

they actually make high temp header paint i havnt gotten to painting mine yet but a few diffrent companys make paint

yes but the heat cycles the headers go threw makes them burn off faster.im just saying. if your on the cheap id go with paint too

krylon 1200* silver with ceramic this is what i will be using
back in the late 70's, a friend of mine had a gto/tempus.  we painted the headers with some rattle can high temp header paint . lasted the whole 8 years he had the car. i thought there might be something out new that was cost efficient.The trick is the prep job, as with any paint job. First thing to do is to clean all the rust off if you have any, then scuff them really good with some 600 sand paper, then use some thinner to remove all the oil and contaminates, that is very important. Put a nice light even coat(1) Now that you have that done get them good and warm, I have luck just putting them out in the sun on a nice day. ive even heard of some people putting them in their ovens. better if it is baked on though
