Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

Where can I find motor mounts for this application. I have read that it will be easier to move the engine forward.

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

I used a set of 67-71 BBC mounts I got on Ebay. They bolt in the factory location on our trucks. But a BBC is too close to the firewall there.
I've seen guys rework the firewall for for clearance, but on mine I moved the mounts about 3 inches forward to gain clearance for the valve covers and distributor.

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

I used 73+ 1/2 ton mounts which center the engine between to the 2 factory positions. I ran stock valve covers and they fit with NO firewall hacking. Front clearance is a little tighter but workable.....2 header options depending on your clearance needs. Mine is running and driving, too. Check link in my sig.

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

Thanks alot guys. I read up on them and I'm sure i will have a few more questions like the headers. I want it to be as easy as possible. I think the electric fan should help with front clearance. HOPEFULLY!

My 454 is mounted on the forward frame holes with HEI dizzy, I used 71 towers/mounts/headers, plenty of frame clearance; short water pump gives plenty of front clearance with a fan. I did have to use a Groves components power steering pump mount.
I've heard 73-87 mounts/headers work well also.

The '73-'87 C20 frame brackets fit these older frames better than the C10 versions. On my Suburban I made my own frame brackets that moved the engine forward about 2 inches since I wanted to run my M/T valve covers. I used the '73-'87 headers also.

Frame brackets? I'm having a little trouble following you on what exactly you mean by that. I am however buying a truck that is an 86 C20 with the 454 and trans in it. So maybe a pic or just a little more explanation. Maybe like the engine mount brackets?

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

I think they are talking motor "perches", those bolt to the frame and then the actual motor mount bolts to that and to the motor.

I have seen some people use the CPP mounts that only bolt to the front holes. I bought some for my LSx swap and couldnt use them due to other clearances. Let me know if your interested.

these are what I have.

Here's a link explaining the perches or towers:

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

Here ya go.......perches, frame brackets, sometimes also called motor mounts..... they stradle the frame to the crossmember and the rubber bolts to the perch. These are 73+ 1/2 tons.

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

I would suggest giving those '86 motor mounts and brackets (towers) a try and see if you can make them work in your truck. IMO these style motor mounts are superior to the early style.

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

Ok. I had no idea the perches were removable. That's why I had all the confusion. I will give the 86 perches and mounts a try. Hopefully they will fit right in with a little modifying. Thanks alot guys and I will get back to you once I get them in. Any suggestions about disc brakes in the front. I wanna go 5-lug and obviously the C20 will not have it but is there a way to use the parts from this truck and just buy different rotors? Should I just use the front end from a C10 and make life easier on myself?

Here's the best thread available regarding disc brake parts options:

Re: Motor mounts for Big block 65 c10

I would just switch to the whole front suspension from the '86. This is assuming you have the complete truck. This will be easy since you plan on changing engines. To use the '86 motor mount rackets, you will need to trim the top flange of the frame a little. This will be necessary if you ever plan on running headers also. Just use the top of the '86 frame as a reference. You can use the power steering box from the '86 as well.
