Question Rear Differential Identification

This is probably a stupid question, and I am still trying to get back into this.... so don't go too hard on me.

Trying to identify my rear differential on my truck......

Checking out LMC Truck of where the identification #s are.

Where it says the Dana "44" stamp should be, I do not see any stamp. Right above that, I see a stamp of 12_45 The blank being unreadable, guessing a 3. Another five digit stamp above that.

On the other side, which would be the long tube, I am seeing a stamp, but totally illegible.

Differential is 12 bolt, and the previous owner said he put in 3.73 gears for towing stuff.

Any way I can tell If I have posi-track without burning out my tires or pulling it apart? Or this might be a stupid question again.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Rear Differential Identification

Sounds like a GM 12-bolt truck axle. To tell if it's a posi, jack it up and spin one tire. If the other one turns backwards, it's an open diff. If it spins the same direction, it's a posi.
