Looks like the back of a speedwarning cluster to me...

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

The cable and knob looks like a speed warning like someone else mentioned. The other one is a bulb socket with a hole/clip for a fiber optic cable I think.

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

You have a rare speedwarning cluster there. The knob is supposed to be in the face of the bezel to adjust the white needle on the speedo. The other part is for the fiber optic cable for an auto trans. Pretty rare setup with the tach included. That would look nice in my collection...

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

If you look for my thread of "weird factory options" you can see approx. where the knob comes through the bezel.
So what is the story with it? just buy it? Putting it in what?

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

I bought this truck as an unfinished project several months ago. It came with boxes of parts that the p.o. had accumulated. I have been putting the truck back together little by little.
A few specs on the truck: SWB, A/C cab, BBC 454, Turbo 400

Thanks for the info and I am sure I will have plenty more questions.

Can anyone tell me how to get the speed warning adjuster apart so I can install through the bezel?

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

You should be able to pull the knob right off, and then unscrew the top black or metal piece underneath the knob. Then stick the silver metal piece up to the back of the hole on the dash. Reinstall the two pieces (knob and retainer) on the outside of the dash bezel. Trevor

I will give it a try. I tried that, but did not want to break it. I will try a bit harder.

Thanks, that worked. Now, should the speed warning indicator rotate to any speed setting. Mine will only rotate from about 50mph and higher.

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

I think they go down to about 30mph and up. Don't force it, these are delicate and hard to find parts for.

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

Yeah, Eric and Doug might be a little more educated than myself when it comes to these, but I always thought they didn't go any lower than around 50mph, as it would be very annoying and pointless to go much lower. Trevor

Thanks Eric, I am still missing a cable for mine, so I haven't messed with turning it. Trevor

Any of you speed warning experts have any suggestions how to repair it so the speed range is correct?

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

The best guy on here for that job might be Doug (TCB-1) on the board. He has restored a couple of these dashes. Personally, I wouldn't mess with it. As it could damage a very tiny wire spool behind the needle on these and are probably pretty expensive to rewind up. Trevor

Re: Instrument Cluster Help

I just sold mine for $500 on Ebay with the tach, buzzer and all wiring. They are very hard to find. I paid only $1,500 for the whole truck it came in and for the past 4 years I never even knew it had the speedwarning tach dash option in it until reading this forum.
